Job Offer Text Scam: “Earn Money From Home”
Unexpected job offers by text or messaging app promising easy pay for simple online tasks are often scams. Learn the warning signs.
What the message looks like
Scam messages change all the time, but they often look something like this example (the names and links are made up):
How the scam works
You get an unexpected message offering well-paid work for simple tasks, like liking videos, rating products or “boosting” apps. At first you may even receive small payments to build trust. Then you’re told to deposit your own money, often in cryptocurrency, to unlock bigger tasks or withdraw your earnings. The money never comes back. Other versions ask for ID documents and bank details for “payroll,” which are then used for fraud.

Warning signs
- A job offer you didn’t apply for, sent by text or messaging app.
- High pay for very little, simple work.
- No interview, contract or verifiable company address.
- You must pay money to start, unlock tasks or withdraw earnings.
- Pressure to move the chat to another app.
What to do
- Don’t reply, and never pay to get a job.
- Search for the company yourself and contact it through its official website.
- Block and report the number or account.
If you already paid or shared documents
Stop sending money, even if they promise you’ll get everything back after one more payment. Contact your bank or crypto exchange, and report it to your country’s fraud service. If you sent ID documents, ask your bank about extra protection on your accounts.
