Why QR codes are used in scams

Scammers stick fake QR codes on parking meters, restaurant menus, posters and even letters. The code looks normal, but it sends you to a fake payment or login page. This is often called “quishing”.

How to check a QR code safely

  1. Tap Scan a QR code and point your camera at it, or upload a photo of it.
  2. We read the code without opening it, then follow the link safely on our server.
  3. You see the real website, how old it is, and any warning signs, before you decide.

Quick tips

  • Look for stickers placed over the original code.
  • Don’t pay through a website you reached from a QR code on the street. Use the official parking or payment app instead.
