Check before you call back or pay

Scammers use expensive call-back numbers, fake “new” bank accounts and email addresses that look almost real. Paste the number, account or address here and see the warning signs in seconds.

What we check

  • Phone numbers: premium-rate and special-rate numbers, UK 070 “personal numbers”, “one ring” call-back scams, and expensive satellite numbers.
  • Bank accounts (IBAN): whether the number is correctly formed, and which country the account is in.
  • Email addresses: free email pretending to be a company, look-alike addresses, brand-new websites, and addresses that can’t receive replies.
  • Reports from other people: how many people reported the same number or account as a scam.

Remember

Scammers can fake the number that shows on your phone. If someone says they’re your bank, hang up and call the number on your card. Then report the scam.

Can you spot a scam?

Ten real-looking messages. Tap “Scam” or “Safe” and see how you do. Takes two minutes.
